Amalfi is a very short ferry ride away from Positano. Somewhere between 20-25 minutes. Amalfi offers up a beautiful cathedral and lots of souvenirs, restaurants and shops scattered around town. It gets very crowded when you come in on the ferry because there is obviously a large number of people who descend on the town all at once. Venture off the beaten path to experience the quieter side of Amalfi. It is worth the short ferry trip to see the town and cathedral. I am sure if you explore deeper into the town there are some quieter areas. A big draw for me was a ride up the mountain to Ravello.
Ravello
I have always wanted to visit this town but never made it here, finally I made it. The adventure begins when you take the bus up, up, up from Amalfi to Ravello. The ride is spine tingling and it makes the Amalfi Drive look like child’s play. Up for offer here are some spectacular views.
Villa Cimbrone Gardens
The one place I would tell you not to miss is Villa Cimbrone Gardens. For a small entrance fee you get time in paradise. The views are spectacular and the gardens are certainly worth the price of admission.
There are various flowers in bloom according to the time of the year and the Infinity Terrace which made me feel a little uneasy. You are so high up in this town and it is a long, long way down.
This to me was the highlight of the visit.
Restaurant
Villa Rufolo
The Villa offers up some spectacular views as well. There are two restaurants here. The more formal one is three floors up and you get there from an elevator in the lobby. The food is good, not spectacular but if you can get a spot on the terrace it is a wonderful place to while away an hour or two. The pricing is not ridiculous.
